The Washington County Free Library invites you to our Summer Film Series, "Memoirs On-Screen". Each week throughout the summer, we'll be showing a different film based on a popular memoir. Reading the book is encouraged, but not required!
This week's film is "Girl, Interrupted", starring Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie, based on the memoir by Susanna Kaysen. After a suicide attempt, Susanna is diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder and admitted to a mental institution. There, she rebels against the head nurse and top psychiatrist, choosing instead to befriend the "loonies", a group of troubled young women including the charismatic sociopath Lisa. But Susanna quickly learns that if she wants her freedom, she'll have to face the person she fears most of all - herself.
This film is rated R for strong language and content relating to drugs, sexuality, and suicide. Registration is not required. Water and light refreshments will be provided.
