The Washington County Free Library invites you to the Fletcher Film Series, where each month, we show you films based around a different theme.
April's theme is "April Fools!" Do you love to laugh? April is National Humor Month, so come join us for some hilarious comedies!
Note: The film series is intended for older teens and adults. Children under the age of 17 should be accompanied by an adult.
Our first film is the 1964 Cold War satire, "Dr. Strangelove, or How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb", directed by the legendary Stanley Kubrick. What could happen if the wrong person pressed the wrong button? U.S. Air Force General Jack Ripper goes completely and utterly mad, believing that communists are conspiring to pollute the "precious bodily fluids" of the American people, and sends his bomber wing to destroy the U.S.S.R. When the U.S. president meets with his advisors, he learns that such an attack will trigger a "Doomsday Machine" that will annihilate all life on Earth. Will the bombers be stopped in time, or will General Jack Ripper succeed in destroying the world?
Starring: Peter Sellers (in three different roles!), George C. Scott, and Sterling Hayden
Run Time: 1 hour and 35 minutes
Rated PG for thematic elements, some violent content, sexual humor, and mild language
