Program Description

Event Details

Washington County Free Library welcomes you to the Fletcher Film Series. Each month, we bring you films based around a central theme. September is "íBienvenido!", in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Note: The film series is intended for older teens and adults. Children under the age of 17 should be accompanied by an adult.

No registration required. Water and light refreshments will be served.

Our first film of the month is the 2021 musical "In the Heights", from Lin-Manuel Miranda (author of the hit play Hamilton). In the lively neighborhood of Washington Heights, on the northern tip of Manhattan, bright-eyed Usnavi runs a bodega, selling the best coffee in town and dreaming of saving up enough money to restore his late father's business in the Dominican Republic. Until then, Usnavi vies for beautiful beautician Vanessa's attention, as his childhood friends, Benny and Nina, nurture dreams of their own, intent on helping the immigrant community of Washington Heights. But these streets are made of music, and as the temperature rises, nothing can stand in the way of youthful, sun-kissed optimism. After all, there is no place like home.

Starring: Anthony Ramos, Cory Hawkins, and Melissa Barrera

Run Time: 2 hours and 23 minutes

Rated PG-13 for some language and suggestive references
