Program Description

Event Details

Washington County Free Library welcomes you to the Fletcher Film Series. Each month, we bring you films based around a central theme. February is "The Hill We Climb", in honor of Black History Month.

Note: The film series is intended for older teens and adults. Children under the age of 17 should be accompanied by an adult.

No registration required. Water and light refreshments will be served.

Our first film this month is Spike Lee's iconic 1989 film "Do The Right Thing". On the hottest day of the year in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, Sal Fragione opens his pizzeria, as he's done every day for the last 25 years. However, the neighborhood surrounding the pizzeria is no longer the same - what once was an Italian neighborhood is now primarily black and Hispanic. As the temperature rises, minor disagreements hint at deeper-lying racial tensions - and by the time night falls, these tensions will explode into violence.

Starring: Spike Lee, Danny Aiello, and Ossie Davis

Run Time: 2 hours

Rated R for language, including racial epithets, violence, sexual references, and some nudity
