Event Details
Singer songwriter, Jennie Avila, is a local artist living in the Antietam Battlefield region of Maryland. Working closely with historians, and descendants of the Civil War, she has collected intimate true stories that she put her hands on and her heart around. These songs are woven from the tales of everyday people who found themselves in the extraordinary circumstances of the Civil War: blue and gray, black and white, men and women, young and old… and of course a horse!
In 2013 and again in 2017, Jennie Avila performed her Civil Wars songs with the Maryland Symphony Orchestra for their annual Salute to Independence, Antietam Battlefield in Sharpsburg, MD. Her husband, Stephen Wright, accompanies her with his own hand-made ceramic drums. To watch the video: Jennie Avila with Maryland Symphony Orchestra.
This program is sponsored by the City of Hagerstown, Friends of the Library, Washington County Arts Council, and Western Maryland Regional Library.
