Program Description

Event Details

George Washington slept here, travelled through here, and corresponded with Fort Frederick and with local citizens who were prominent in the Revolutionary War. He also scouted out Williamsport as a location for the new nation's capital. Washington knew the Williams of Williamsport, the Fitzhughs of Chewsville, the Hughes brothers of Mt. Aetna and Old Forge, and many others.  We also have the monument in Boonsboro, and accounts of how Washington's birthday was celebrated in our country's early history.
