Program Description

Event Details

Jonathan Hager is primarily known as the founder of Hagerstown, MD and the Father of Washington County, and that's it--but there is so much more to know! What's been lost is his identity as a radical patriot leader in the decade leading up to the American Revolution. Along with Frederick, Hager's Town was first among the communities in Maryland and the other colonies to stand up to the British and repudiate the Stamp Act in 1765. From that point forward, this community led by Hager was at the forefront of rebellion against the king. Come and learn from Matthew Penrod, Hager House and Museum guide, about the many ways Hager shaped this county in its fight for independence from Great Britain. We'll have Colonial-era snacks and beverages, and some of the Hager family's belongings, like his own personal Prayer Book and one of his many land deeds.
