Purpose of Meeting

It's April 2nd, 1865, and Richmond, Virginia – the “Queen City of the Confederacy” – has just fallen to Union General Ulysses S. Grant. As the city is evacuated, the entire Confederate Treasury and the gold from the city’s major banks and wealthy individuals is hastily tossed onto waiting steam trains on the Danville line. In the overnight hours the trains head south; the officials in charge are trying to make it to the Gulf of Mexico and from there perhaps to Texas. But as the “Treasure Trains” push through the Carolinas, the Confederacy collapses all around them. Meanwhile, the federal agents are closing in... What will be the end of the line for the Treasure Trains? And what happened to the Richmond Bank gold? Join Treasure Train Storytellers R.J. and Rebecca Rush on Monday, May 6th, starting at 6 p.m. in the Library's Community Room, as they take us along on the furious flight to follow the money. No tickets or registration required. All aaa-boooaarrd!!
