Event Details

Arriving in Smithsburg in 1825, Dr. Elijah T. Bishop quickly became one of the driving forces in shaping the future of Smithsburg, as did the next two generations of his family when it came to developing local highways, expansion of the town of Smithsburg, and bringing the railroad into the town and the nearby community of Cavetown.  Additionally, the Bishops had a big impacet on public health, and founded a local church, and the public library, and produced a nationally recognized sculptor, Emily Clayton Bishop. Lecture by Jefferson Boyer of the Smithsburg Historical Society. Sign up online.
