Event Details

The Boonsboro Historical Society announces that author and historian, Bob O’Connor, will be speaking at the Boonsboro Free Library at 5:30PM on August 22.

His program, called "Boonsboro Environs", will feature portions of several of his books with connections to Boonsboro. For instance, from the "The Perfect Steel Trap Harpers Ferry 1859" O'Connor will tell of seven of John Brown's raiders who escaped -- with all seven traveling from Harpers Ferry to Chambersburg on a path we know today as the Appalachian Trail -- passing along South Moutain just above the town of Boonsboro.  From his book "Southern Oasis at Gettysburg " the author will tell of a rather funny incident involving the local toll keeper and the Confederate Army marching toward Gettysburg, with their march disrupted in nearby Tilghmanton.
