Program Description

Event Details

Curious about the origins of Smith Island Cake, crab soup, and Maryland fried chicken? Come to the Hancock Veterans Memorial Branch Library for the next presentation of their Third Thursday Learning and Lecture Series, "Maryland Cooking: Historic Cookbooks of the Old Line State" on October 17 at 6:00 pm . The Maryland Department of the Maryland State Library Resource Center has a small but historically significant collection of Maryland cookbooks, one dating back as far as 1845. The presenter will explore the collection in historical and cultural context, and search for early examples of your favorite Maryland recipes. They will also discuss blogs about the history of cooking, digital collections of historic cookbooks, and other online resources. Whether you are searching for that elusive recipe or you’re just interested in local history, the State Library Resource Center will help you savor Maryland’s culinary past. This event is appropriate for all ages, and no registration is required.
