Program Description

Event Details

Join us at the Hancock Veterans Memorial Branch Library for our Third Thursday Learning and Lecture Series. This month's program is "What Make's a Classic?" Almost all of our programs are provided by the Maryland State Library Resource Center.

You’ve heard and maybe even used the phrase: “It’s a classic.” But which works of literature become classics? Do they have to be old? Do they have to be bestsellers? Today what we consider a classic differs from what was considered a classic fifty or even one hundred years ago. Explore the history of classical literature, discuss the defining features of this distinct category of literary works, and review notable classics through the years.
