Noteworthy Sundays Concert Series: Jazz Trio

Join us Sunday, January 8th at 3pm for some relaxing jazz music provided by local musicians Danny, Jeff, and Mark! 

Danny Webber: guitar

A versatile musician/guitarist, Danny Webber can be heard performing with some of the most celebrated jazz, classical, and rock musicians in the tri-state area, leading his own jazz-oriented trio for over a decade. Described as “cerebral cool,” Danny is a performer and composer whose music places equal emphasis on atmosphere, melody, and evocation. His debut recording as a leader, Initial Thoughts (2017), features all-original compositions and has been described as thoughtful and atmospheric, with a sound favorably compared to jazz greats Pat Metheny and John Abercrombie. 

Danny earned separate graduate degrees in Modern Humanities and Classical Guitar Performance from Frostburg State University and Shenandoah Conservatory. He is Associate Professor of Music and Humanities and serves as Music Department Coordinator at Hagerstown Community College, where he has taught for more than two decades. 

Jeff Cosgrove: drums

Praised for his “open-time creativity and melodic sense” (Gapplegate Music Reviews), drummer Jeff Cosgrove has pursued a unique improvisational path with varied ensembles, including a trio with Matthew Shipp and William Parker (Alternating Current), another with Frank Kimbrough and Martin Wind (Conversations with Owls), and a quartet playing repertory by the late Paul Motian (Motian Sickness). Projects are also ongoing with Shipp and Mat Maneri, Scott Robinson and Ken Filiano, and rising tenor saxophone star Noah Preminger.

Jeff is drawn toward abstraction in his musical work, summoning colors and textures on the drum kit, listening deeply encouraging the music to flow and evolve. As The Washington Post put it: “Cosgrove’s drumming doesn’t provide the music with an engine so much as a lighthouse.” According to the Frederick News-Post, “Cosgrove reaches so far beyond the parameters of mere beats and time signatures and groove that calling him a drummer is barely the beginning.”

Mark Lysher: bass

Mark has been playing music professionally in the Baltimore-Washington metro area for the past fifty years. As a free-lance bass player, Mark has played in every imaginable musical situation; from rock and roll in local bars to High Society weddings to backing national head-liners such as Ben E. King. Mark studied Instrumental Performance and Composition at Towson State University, Berklee College of Music in Boston, and The Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore. He has studied privately with Owen Cummings of the Baltimore Symphony and with jazz instructors Walt Namuth, Drew Gress, Rufus Reid, and Ben Allison.
