In 1880, Arthur Jordan and Elvira Corder sought refuge in Washington County after fleeing Virginia, where their relationship was outlawed due to their different racial backgrounds. Unfortunately, they were followed, and tragedy ensued. Join us October 2nd as author Jim Hall delves into this true tale and shares his research of the challenges and dangers faced by an interracial couple in the decades following the Civil War.
Jim Hall is an award-winning journalist who has spent years uncovering stories of lynchings in Virginia. He is the author of The Last Lynching in Northern Virginia: Seeking Truth at Rattlesnake Mountain and Condemned for Love in Old Virginia: The Lynching of Arthur Jordan. He has a master’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and is a former adjunct instructor at the University of Mary Washington. A native of Virginia, he is retired and lives in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
