Event Details

No plot can stand on its own.  But with an engaging cast of characters, any story can transport the reader! Join speculative fiction author JP Sloan as he discusses strategies for crafting compelling, believable, and relatable characters.  Topics will include character backgrounds, wounds, flaws, even nervous tics and vocal pauses.  Create a detailed worksheet to form a character as a fully realized human being with goals and conflicts, both internal and external.  With a strong protagonist, the plot practically suggests itself!

J.P. Sloan is a speculative fiction author, primarily of urban fantasy, horror, and several shades between.  His writing explores the strangeness in that which is familiar, at times stretching the limits of the human experience, or only hinting at the monsters lurking under your bed.  A Louisiana native, Sloan relocated to the vineyards and cow pastures of Central Maryland after Hurricane Katrina, where he lives with his wife and son.  He now teaches Creative Writing at Frederick Community College.  His recent publications include the urban fantasy Dark Choir series, and the western/horror Yea Though I Walk.

Books will be available for sale and for signing.
